Where Is Our Boldness?

Where Is Our Boldness?

Scroll through social media on any given day, and you’ll see no shortage of bold opinions. Many Christians, who would hesitate to start a spiritual conversation with a friend or neighbor, have no problem passionately sharing their thoughts on politics, cultural controversies, and the latest headlines. They argue, debate, and proclaim their views with fervor. But when it comes to the gospel—the one message that has eternal significance—silence.

Why is that? Why do we find it easier to be vocal about temporary matters while remaining quiet about Christ? It’s not that political engagement is wrong; as believers, we should care about justice, truth, and the direction of our nation. But have we allowed our passion for earthly kingdoms to outshine our commitment to the eternal kingdom?

The Kingdom That Lasts

Jesus made it clear that His kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36). Every nation, every political system, and every earthly power will eventually fade. Yet, the kingdom of God is forever (Daniel 2:44). Our primary citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and our greatest calling is not to make converts to a political ideology but to make disciples of Christ (Matthew 28:19-20).

We often lament the state of our country, but what if we were as grieved over lost souls as we are about political corruption? What if we spent as much time preparing to share the gospel as we do researching and discussing political issues? What if our social media feeds reflected our love for Christ more than our frustrations with culture?

Boldness in the Right Places

The apostle Paul urged believers to pray for boldness in sharing the gospel (Ephesians 6:19). He was imprisoned, beaten, and persecuted for proclaiming Christ, yet he never wavered. Today, many of us hesitate to even bring up Jesus in a conversation for fear of awkwardness or rejection. We’ll argue passionately for our political beliefs, but when it comes to the name of Jesus, we hold back.

This is not a call to abandon all political discussions, nor to disengage from important cultural matters. Rather, it is a plea to prioritize what truly matters. Our boldness should first and foremost be for the gospel. We should be known not just for what we are against politically, but for who we stand for eternally—Jesus Christ.

A Practical Challenge

What can we do? Here are a few steps:

  1. Examine Your Priorities – Ask yourself: Do I talk about politics more than I talk about Jesus? Do my conversations reflect my love for Christ?
  2. Pray for Boldness – Like Paul, pray that God would give you courage to speak about the gospel in your daily interactions (Acts 4:29).
  3. Use Your Platform Wisely – Social media can be a tool for sharing truth. Consider posting about the hope of Christ just as freely as you post about current events.
  4. Engage in Personal Evangelism – While online discussions have their place, nothing replaces face-to-face gospel conversations. Be intentional in speaking about Christ with coworkers, neighbors, and friends.
  5. Remember the Mission – Christ has commissioned us to be His witnesses (Acts 1:8). That is our highest calling, greater than any political cause.

If we truly believe the gospel is the greatest news in the world, then we cannot keep silent. Let’s not waste our voice on things that will fade while neglecting the one message that saves. Let’s be known as people who speak with boldness—not just about the passing kingdoms of this world, but about the eternal kingdom of Christ.
